Comparison of Mickey Mouse: The Band Concert and Mickey Mouse: Aye Aye Captain
Mickey Mouse is a humorous animated character and the official mascot of the Walt Disney Animation Company that wears a pair of white gloves, large yellow shoes, and red shorts. The animated mouse character was created by Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney at the Walt Disney animation studio in the year 1928. Since its creation, the character has grown to become the most famous animated character in the world used to produce films that target both the young and old groups of people. This paper is an analysis of two videos that feature Mickey Mouse as the lead character. The paper compares and contrasts how the animated character has been used in the two videos.
Mickey Mouse and Friends: The Band Concert
The video “Mickey Mouse and Friends: The Band Concert” is a hilarious short featuring Mickey Mouse and other popular animated characters such as Donald Duck and Goofy. The Mickey Mouse and Friends: The Band Concert” story is about a small live performing orchestra that is conducted by Mickey Mouse that tries to put up the perfect show but ends up hilariously messed up. In the film, the live music band starts by performing the William Tell overture, but Donald Duck, another famous animated character, appears from nowhere to distract the orchestra by confusing them to play Turkey in the Straw. Other distractions that make the film even more hilarious follow after Donald Duck has been removed from the picture. Such other destructions include the distractive bee, two cartoon characters that appear to be falling in love thus not focusing on the task at hand, and a storm that forms a tornado that prompts the audience to run away. The film can mainly be classified as a comic musical with no speaking involved. The only animated personality that speaks in the short film is Donald Duck. The short video “Mickey Mouse and Friends: The Band Concert” is also more entertaining than it is informative. This is because there is no lesson to be learnt from the entire video but a lot of laughter to be experienced due to the unfolding of the events from Donald Ducks’ flutes to the tornado scene. The target group of the short film can also be established to be both young and old. Like most of the silent or musical Mickey Mouse short film, the video “Mickey Mouse and Friends: The Band Concert” targets both children and adults since its humor is suitable for all the age groups.
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Aye Aye Captain Mickey
There are a number of easily noticeable differences between the two films featuring Mickey Mouse. To start with, the short film Aye Aye Captain Mickey is less hilarious than the band concert short film. The short film “Aye Aye Captain Mickey” is also less musical compared to the short film “the band concert”. The reason for this is that there is less use of music in Aye Aye Captain Mickey compared to the band concert short film.
The target group for the short film Aye Aye Captain Mickey is also different from that of the band concert. This is because the short film Aye Aye Captain Mickey is more specific in regards to the target age group than the short film “the band concert.” The short film “Aye Aye Captain Mickey” specifically focuses on children as the target group while the short film “the band concert” focuses on both the young and the old. Unlike the short film “the band concert” where only Donald Duck speaks in the whole movie, every animated character in the short film Aye Aye Captain Mickey speaks, except Mickie’s dog, which is left to look after the clubhouse. From this, it can be established that the short film Aye Aye Captain Mickey is more informative to the target group than it is comical, unlike the short film “the band concert,” which is more comical than informative. The storylines of the two short films can also establish the target groups of the films. Whereas the storyline of the short film “the band concert” involves a series of destructions to the live orchestra, the storyline of the short film “Aye Aye Captain Mickey” involves Professor von Drake and other characters who go looking for Mickey Mouse’ lost lucky coin. In the short film “Aye Aye Captain Mickey” Mickey Mouse is made captain of Professor von Drake’s submarine. Mickey Mouse and his friends’ mission is to dive into Mickey’s lake to look for Mickey’s lost lucky coin. From this plot, it can be established that the storyline specifically targets a young age group, unlike the target group of the short film “the band concert.”
