PSY 120 Research/Reflection Paper
Instructions: Choose a topic from any module in the e-book Discover Psychology. A whole module would be too broad of a topic to cover. Choose a subtopic within a module. The goals of this assignment are to help you dig deeper into a topic of interest, study relevant peer reviewed journal articles and draw connections from the course material to your own lives.
Section 1: The first part of your paper (about 1 page) will be a summary of what the ebook says about your topic. Please paraphrase (put in your own words) and include in-text citations at the end of every paragraph in which you have paraphrased. Failing to include in-text citations is considered plagiarism.
In preparation for Section 2, find 2 peer-reviewed journal articles on your chosen topic from the Grossmont library or another library. These are articles written by experts and are reviewed by several other experts in the field before the article is published in the journal in order to insure the article’s quality. Your sources must be peer-reviewed. Grossmont librarians are available to assist you in locating articles. Focus on the purpose of the study, introduction, methodology, the major findings and the implications for those findings. It is not necessary to understand the Results section at this time as it takes a lot of training in Statistics to do so.
Section 2: The second section of your paper is the main body of your paper (3 pages) and will need to include information from the two peer-reviewed articles that you chose. Be sure to include the purpose of each study, hypothesis, methodology, major findings and the implications for those findings. Please make it clear how this information relates to your topic from the textbook. Be sure to include in-text citations at the end of every paragraph in which you have paraphrased your sources.
Section 3: The third section of your paper (about 1 page) should clearly explain why this topic is important to you and how this information can help you or someone you know. This is the section where you will reflect on your own thoughts and opinions about your chosen topic.
Your paper should be 5 pages long (not including the title and reference pages), typed, double-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman Font. Be sure your cover page, body of paper, and reference page are all APA format. The Grossmont Writing Center has resources on APA style.
